A friend recently commented about a trait that he admires so much in his wife.  He made the point that what she does is really an obligation for all of us as believers.  I wanted to pass his perspective on, hoping it is a blessing to you.

Lynn is a grandmother who like many women has a gift of being able to read people well.

Lynn approaches each day believing it is her duty to reflect on the souls the Lord arranges to cross her path. She is cognizant that plan was arranged thousands of years ago and the faces she will greet is not something to be taken lightly.  Sometimes she chooses to share the Sprit verbally and openly with people she meets.

Often however Lynn evangelizes and shares the Spirit, silently. 

When she sees someone and senses anxiety, stress, or sadness, Lynn will pray that the Spirit will help that person.  The simplest powerful prayer may be, “Praised be Jesus! Come Holy Spirit! Help this person in every good way!” It takes only seconds.

Lynn will also pray for people the Lord sends into her path who are mean, angry, miserable, and aeven bad. Here perhaps it will be far more palatable for us to pray for these enemies by selfishly praying a very choice prayer for them ... but one that is a total blessing for the individual:

“Praise to be Jesus! Come Holy Spirit – descend upon this person, melt his heart, help him to see himself as you see him and to want what You want.”

Again, this takes just seconds.

Lynn's experience is that it is particularly maddening to the devil to pray for others when one is under attack personally - an idea that I had not considered before but that seems to make a lot of sense. Showing love and selflessness which evil cannot comprehend.

Of course, readers know the invaluable prescription heaven gave us to keep evil from even attacking you to begin with (what a blessing!)… but like many, my friend thinks Medjugorje is nonsense.  

So, for those who reject the granularity of those teachings, this idea of confounding evil when it is attacking you seems a very good plan.  As St. Paul said, test and discern.

A final word about this - Lynn senses it is the Spirit talking when one's heart quickens, and joy permeates an idea.

Thank you for fasting with us tomorrow. Evil tells you that your fast tomorrow doesn’t mean much, that bread and water fasting as 1st century Christians practiced is too easy. blah blah. Evil never stops lying and never admits it is wrong.

What matters though is what God says - and He says your decision to do this easy little fast tomorrow will be like winning the Heisman trophy.

Forever immortalized.

7) For young Megan who has an incurable liver condition @ Duke Hospital - Asking the Divine Physician for a complete healing.
