As you start out on this day of fasting where heaven's promises are so extraordinary regarding the power that you have alter history by your fasting, allow us pass on some recent feedback from one of our brothers who fasts with us.

Perhaps this may be helpful to you or someone you know as well.

“Protect us from distress”

“keep us safe from all anxiety”

ANXI'ETY, noun angzi'ety. [Latin anxietas, from anxius, solicitous; Latin ango. See Anger.]

1. concern or solicitude respecting some event, future or uncertain, which disturbs the mind, and keeps it in a state of painful uneasiness... it usually springs from fear or serious apprehension of evil, and involves a suspense respecting an event, and often, a perplexity of mind, to know how to shape our conduct.

- Webster's Dictionary of 1828

Since our reminder from Wednesday, the quotes above are from the daily Eucharist verbiage, both highlighting the perspective that worry is damaging, if not crippling. It underscores the import of Jesus‘ words that we cited Wednesday: let not your hearts be troubled!

Recently Richard who fasts with us expressed that he has found himself waking up in the middle of the night with concerning thoughts and worries rampaging through his mind, like a freight train that is out of control. 

These worries prevented him from sleeping peacefully.

Such an experience in life is exactly the opposite of how our Savior showed us we should enjoy life.

Recall again the passage where the apostles were overcome with distress at their impending doom as menacing waves surged around them. The earthly logic of the apostles led the noveau-believers to think the sea was about to wreck their boat and drown them in a violent storm. Notably and importantly our Savior simply slept peacefully through the whole process, correctly knowing that our Mighty Lord would protect His people from what the world teaches was so troubling.

And how practically are you to instantly replicate the Savior's peace if you find yourself awakening in the middle of the night filled with anxiety?

Or if during the day you find yourself consumed with satan‘s signature anxiety running rough shot over you?

Here is a three-step process to immediately exercise your authority and rights over evil, delivering it a striking blow and you a victory:

1) The first step in this simple spiritual rescue is recognize that if you are anxious, it is the fingerprint of evil. Anxiety is a marker that evil is attaching itself to you in its attack vs. you. Make St. Paul's understanding your own: Life is a spiritual battle, and you are on the front lines. Most believers who do not know how to defend themselves are constantly being attacked by evil. Deal with this truth and be versed in the rules of engagement. Know that you have the power to overcome evil - don't be fooled into fearing evil.

2) Once you are aware of evil's presence, take a deep breath IN.

3) As you exhale from your deep breath speak the following simple three words:

Praised be Jesus!

You must speak the words no matter how softly - it is not enough to just think the words given how God arranged the universe.

Repeat this, focusing your mind on our Savior as you do … perhaps envision the amusing image of Jesus asleep in the back of the boat while the waves roared around Him. Each time you speak the words be conscious of tension in your body and how the name of Jesus quickly allows you to release tension - your forehead relaxing, perhaps your jaw if it is clenched, your shoulders, your hands.  

Our help is in the name of the Lord - That simple reality is one of the greatest themes of scripture and such an important and powerful reality that satan has pushed the church to forget.

Our help is in the name of the Lord. Our help in all things is in the name of Jesus….

3) For the protection of the families who fast with us, and for God’s blessings of abundance upon them and that true to His word, we will be able to witness that He prospered us in famine.

5) For priests, ministers and all who aspire to lead others to the Lord, that the Holy Spirit will reign down upon them as at Pentecost filling them to overflowing with an understanding of what the Lord wants, courage and the desire to preach what He would have them preach and protection and strength from all evil that comes against them. 

6) For the Americans jailed after January 6th who were admitted to the Capitol building by the police, and who were not found to have destroyed any property at the capitol yet who have been held captive ever since on our own soil - That God's Spirit will move quickly to bring justice back to this land by freeing them while enlightening Americans how to bring God's justice back to our nation.

7) For young Megan who has an incurable liver condition @ Duke Hospital - Asking the Divine Physician for a complete healing.
