Once I heard a line from a song in a movie that has stayed with me ever since. It goes, “But only love can break your heart.” After my experience of discerning the priesthood for almost a decade only to end up leaving, I now believe that only a broken heart can truly love.
Men leave everything behind in pursuit of the priesthood. Whether it be family, friends, a career, or prized possessions, there are big sacrifices that must be made. Many of these men who answer the call to discern the priesthood have to leave a fiancée behind or end a long-term romantic relationship. These difficult decisions have consequences and reverberate deeply in the lives of those affected. Perhaps a heart breaks most when it knows it has broken other hearts.
But the broken-hearted man who has made these difficult decisions of great emotional weight is comforted by the words of our Lord:
“Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the Gospel, who will not receive a hundred fold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life.” (Mark 10:29-30)
Being so comforted, the man pushes forward with bold enthusiasm.
In my particular case, as my broken heart was healing from making tough decisions to follow the call to the priesthood, my spirit started to be troubled in seminary. I was attacked for being too Eucharistic and Marian. Once I was told that I should focus solely on philosophy and theology so as to knock the “piety” out of me. I started to ask myself if I should leave seminary. If my faith had not been stronger, it would have been completely suffocated.
Mine was not the only vocation that was struggling. I came across other men who were having second thoughts about their call to the priesthood. And the reasons for the doubts were common; it was because of the overly rational, completely scientific, and strictly historical training we were receiving. More than one seminarian would ask: “What happened to the spiritual and devotional components of formation?” Before I left seminary after eighteen months, approximately half a dozen other seminarians had done the same.
My decision to leave was not easy, but it was necessary. After seeing how satan is using priests and bishops to make seminaries fail, I feel at peace with my decision. The difficulty is that I still feel like the only thing I can be in life is a Roman Catholic priest. Perhaps there are former seminarians reading this who have not fully recovered from or who have not even forgiven themselves for “failing” out of seminary. You did not fail; it was the system put in place in the formation of priests that has failed you. The day will come when seminaries will be renewed and will give birth to priests on fire with the Holy Spirit. We will once again have Marian priests forming seminarians with an unconquerable zeal for the salvation of souls. It will be an army of pious priests who will be fundamental in bringing about the triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. For the Queen of Peace once said in one of her many Apparitions that, “I was the mainstay of the new-born Church; I shall be so again!” Like the cloud that brought rain on Mount Carmel after three and a half years of drought, hope is on the horizon.
And that hope has a name: Mary. Whether she leads you back to seminary or not, I do not know. But please allow Mary and the Holy Spirit to restore your broken hearts and learn to truly love.
1) We add the new fasting intention of taking back the church from evil. We submit the three-step process to achieve this victory is 1-Repent, 2-Prayer & Fasting and, 3-Imitate our Savior by throwing the evil leadership from the church. We will seek to emulate the Savior in our effort to End The USCCB, an organization that has been devastating to the church. (“You shall know the spirit by the fruits” - Matt. 7:16)
2) For the Holy Spirit to reign down upon America, renewing our land as the Christian, capitalist meritocracy we were founded to be.
3) For the protection of our police, firefighters, military and their families from harm and that the Lord bless their courageous generosity on our behalf.
4) For the protection of the families who fast with us, and for God’s blessings of abundance upon them and that true to His word, we will be able to witness that He prospered us in famine.

4) For all patriots who put themselves on the front lines in combatting evil and for all of the warriors who are stepping up around the nation to fight for the gospel – May The Father cover them in the blood of our savior, protect them and their families from evil and bring victory to their endeavors.
5) For priests, ministers and all who aspire to lead others to the Lord, that the Holy Spirit will reign down upon them as at Pentecost filling them to overflowing.
6) For the Americans jailed after January 6th who were admitted to the Capitol building by the police, and who were not found to have destroyed any property at the capitol yet who have been held captive ever since on our own soil - That God's Spirit will move quickly to bring justice back to this land and free them.
