Perhaps The Funniest Story I’ve heard About Our Insecurities
"In prayer you shall perceive ... the way out of every situation that has no exit." |
____________________________________________________________________________ This month I had the chance to visit Ohio and had lunch with a brother Jay who lives in the Buckeye State. During our conversation we were commiserating on the lack of singing skills the Lord chose to bequeath to us. After hearing his self-depreciating remarks, I told him that I thought he was likely far better than he was suggesting.
He then told me one of the funniest stories I’ve heard this summer.
As a boy Jay was almost deaf but it took his teachers until the third grade to realize why he wasn’t responding to them. (Can you imagine?) He then had surgery which greatly improved his ability to hear but with his newfound acoustical abilities Jay had no idea that his voice didn’t sound quite as good to others as it did to him. During music class one day he happily belted out the song his teacher asked the class to sing at the top of his lungs.
To his shock suddenly as Jay was reading the sheet music and happily singing, he suddenly felt himself being grabbed by his teacher and yanked out of his desk. Jay was drug outside of the classroom in bewilderment as to why the teacher was so upset with him. The teacher didn’t stop outside of the classroom door however and drug him outside of the building where as Jay said “She paddled me.” Jay was utterly befuddled and couldn’t understand why he was being beaten.
The teacher explained that she didn’t appreciate that Jay was making fun of her singing by intentionally singing so badly as Jay was singing.
Imagine her utter humiliation when she realized this little boy had not been making fun of her at all and was actually loving her class, loving what she was teaching and simply was singing as she encouraged the students to do.
Jay’s only shortcoming was that he simply didn’t have the talent of a choir boy. Like little Jay that day, I had tears in my eyes as he recounted his story, only mine were from laughter at his memory. You’ll be glad to know not only did Jay turn out ok, not only does he not harbor any grudges against the teacher who beat him unnecessarily that day, but he is a stellar person, believer and evangelist.
As we go before the Lord to intercede for our families, our military, police and firefighters, this great nation of America, and all of our other intentions, let’s not be too focused or too consumed with our doubts, our own unworthiness, our lack of any kind or like that teacher any of our countless insecurities.
Let’s remember you are so beautiful to God and He is so happy when you reach out to Him. Let us remember we just need faith the size of a mustard seed to move mountains. That would suggest if we have faith the size of just a grain of sand … much tinier even than a mustard seed … we could still unlock notable miracles. Brothers and sisters each of us has faith the size of a grain of sand!
In a very unusual anomaly, the most studied psalm in the world today was again Psalm 33 which was the most studied in the world earlier this month and includes the simple words:
13 The LORD looks down from heaven… and observes all their deeds… he is our help and shield … because we trust in his holy name.
Your decision to step up and fast today is being talked about in heaven. Maybe you still don’t think that Christians are obligated to fast twice weekly, but you have decided out of generosity you will fast twice weekly as it clearly pleases and appeases our wonderful King. Your faith, efforts and intercession for our great nation are forever changing history - great miracles are flowing.
Thank you for fasting with us - You will be glad you made the effort today, for all of eternity.
