The 1oz Australian Gold Kangaroo is crafted from .9999 pure gold which holds legal tender status in Australia. 

In 2023, the Perth Mint is halting the production of Australian Gold Kangaroos featuring Queen Elizabeth II.  

The Perth Mint began minting the Gold Kangaroo series in 1986. It was originally known as the Gold Nugget series and featured various gold nugget images on the reverse. In 1989, the design incorporated an image of the kangaroo. These coins are minted in various denominations, including 1/20 oz, 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, 1 oz, and 1 kilo sizes, and they hold legal tender status in Australia. The Kangaroo Series showcases unique annual designs, setting them apart from many other popular gold sovereign coins.
