Angels & Demons III
"When you pray, pray first for the Holy Spirit because when you have the Holy Spirit, you have everything." - Medjugorje April 4, 1985 |
____________________________________________________________________________ In our previous reminders, we have talked about the first rank of angels-the Seraphim, the Cherubim, and the Thrones- as well as the second rank- the Dominions, Virtues, and Powers. Today, we will look at the third rank: the Archangels, the Principalities, and the Guardian Angels.
We are unaware of any fallen angels from the Archangels. The three mentioned in the Bible are Gabriel, Michael and Raphael. Gabriel is well known as the messenger angel who appeared to Zechariah and later Mary, the Mother of God. Raphael is mentioned in the book of Tobit and is the Healing angel. Michael, which means “Who is like God?” is the angel who helped to fight against Lucifer who obstinately said “I will not serve.” In the book of Daniel, an angel visited Daniel. He said, From the first day you decided to…humble yourself before God, your prayer was heard. Because of it, I started out. But the prince of Persia stood in my way for 21 days until Michael, came to help me.” Interestingly, the book of Jude (1:9) says that Michael and Lucifer contended over the body of Moses! And the great archangel Michael did not rebuke the devil directly, but rather asked God to rebuke him.
The second division of the third rank are the principalities. We have referenced the principalities in prior verses, but note the story above from Daniel. The angel in charge of the geographic area of Persia had the ability to block the passage of another angel. Was this then a fallen angel who had jurisdiction over Persia? Certainly he was not working for God. As far as other principalities, we have testimony form the children of Fatima, Portugal that the angel of Portugal appeared to them to teach them to pray and to prepare them to see the visions of Mary which came the following year. This would seem to indicate that some principalities are fallen and some are not.
The letter to the Colossians has a very interesting detail regarding the principalities. In chapter 2:9ff, Paul wrote: For in Him dwells the whole fullness of the deity bodily, and you share in this fullness in him, who is the head of every principality and power….He brought you to life along with him …obliterating the bond against us with its legal claims, despoiling the principalities and the powers, he made a public spectacle of them, leading them away in triumph. Now that is a detail that we have never seen in the crucifixion/resurrection narrative!
Lastly, we have our own guardian angels. Logic tells us that God would never give us a fallen angel, however, men can certainly make their jobs much harder if they allow evil influences to enter their lives. Padre Pio and others believed strongly in cultivating an awareness and a relationship with one’s guardian angel. One can greet them in the morning, ask for their help in avoiding temptation, and ask for protection when frightened. Just think how many guardian angels there are! Billions and billions! What happens when the person dies? Do the guardian angels get “recycled?” Who knows, but we think the God has no need to economize.
We encourage you to continue learning about angels, and to have a healthy aversion to demons. Your fasting breaks bonds in the heavenly realm when you direct your prayers towards those in bondage. Why We Fast – Our Core Fasting Intentions 1) We add the new fasting intention of taking back the church from evil. We submit the three-step process to achieve this victory is 1-Repent, 2-Prayer & Fasting and, 3-Imitate our Savior by throwing the evil leadership from the church. We will seek to emulate the Savior in our effort to End The USCCB, an organization that has been devastating to the church. (“You shall know the spirit by the fruits” - Matt. 7:16) 2) For the Holy Spirit to reign down upon America, renewing our land as the Christian, capitalist meritocracy we were founded to be. 3) For the protection of our police, firefighters, military and their families from harm and that the Lord bless their courageous generosity on our behalf. 4) For the protection of the families who fast with us, and for God’s blessings of abundance upon them and that true to His word, we will be able to witness that He prospered us in famine. 4) For all patriots who put themselves on the front lines in combatting evil and for all of the warriors who are stepping up around the nation to fight for the gospel – May The Father cover them in the blood of our savior, protect them and their families from evil and bring victory to their endeavors.
