A Transformed Martha Unlocks A Resurrection
"In prayer you shall perceive ... the way out of every situation that has no exit." |
____________________________________________________________________________ While we are fasting tomorrow the most studied gospel passage in the world will be one of scripture's most extraordinary, the resurrection of Lazarus. Consider this spellbinding scene after Jesus' dear friend had been in the tomb for four days, a period long enough that a cadaver would have begun to disintegrate:
JOHN 11:17-27 17Now when Jesus came, he found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb four days. 18Bethany was near Jerusalem, about two miles off, 19and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to console them concerning their brother. 20When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, while Mary sat in the house. 21Martha said to Jesus, "Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22And even now I know that whatever you ask from God, God will give you." 23Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise again." 24Martha said to him, "I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day." 25Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?" 27She said to him, "Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, he who is coming into the world."
The transformation in Martha from when we previously saw her in scripture is dramatic. In her first meeting with Jesus, she is like the modern-day social worker - consumed with feeding the hungry and working a never ending To Do List. In that encounter, Jesus chastised her for having her priorities out of order and upheld Mary's choice to pray and adore the Lord as most important. The joy that is released in one's soul from embracing God first and the power of that teaching was not missed on Martha. In her second encounter with Jesus, we see Martha cast aside her tasks of the day and race to see Jesus. She longs to spend even a moment with him one-on-one before the crowds surround him. And now with her priorities in order, God first and serving others a far distant second, Martha is given the opportunity to proclaim her belief that Jesus is the Messiah. Her belief unlocks a miracle for the ages.
In contrast to Martha's faith, when believers expected little scripture shows even Jesus was unable to perform great miracles. God is always ready. Scripture repeatedly tells us today is the day and now is the moment to expect great blessings. Evil thrives when our expectations are minimal and our belief lukewarm. Expect great things from the Lord in your life.
Heaven will notice your fast tomorrow.
You will be one of the few believers worldwide making the effort to fast, standing up to be counted. You resolve shines despite clergy teaching that regular fasting is not necessary, despite Jesus' words that His followers would fast, despite the acts of the apostles, and despite the writings of first century Christians. Your faith places you in a position to receive great blessings and like Martha you stand before the Lord, and you have His attention.
Expect The Spirit to do great things in your life like we saw with Lazarus millennia ago and with Dani, just last week.
Thank you for fasting with us tomorrow - You will be glad you made the effort for all of eternity. ____________________________________________________________________________ |
Why We Fast – Our Core Fasting Intentions 1) For the Holy Spirit to reign down upon America renewing our land as the Christian, capitalist meritocracy we were founded to be. 2) For the protection of our police, firefighters, military and their families from harm and that the Lord bless their courageous generosity on our behalf one hundredfold. 3) For the protection of the families who fast with us, and for God’s blessings of abundance upon them and that true to His word, we will be able to witness that He prospered us in famine. 4) For Mike Lindell who is putting himself on the front lines suing over the election fraud that has taken place and for all of the warriors who are stepping up around the nation to fight for the gospel – May The Father cover them in the blood of our savior, protect them and their families from evil and bring victory to their endeavors. |
