Do You Know Someone Struggling With Anxiety
"In prayer you shall perceive ... the way out of every situation that has no exit." |
____________________________________________________________________________ … What began as a trickle of concern became a tsunami of worry … a panic attack
… anxiety is the most common American mental health disorder. It is the #1 mental health disease among women and #2 among men after alcoholism & drugs.
… Definition of anxiety: A lethal combination of worry & fear that dominates your mind, saturates your heart and devastates your soul.
The above are quotes from Rev. James Merritt who was the President of the Southern Baptist Convention, the largest protestant church in the world. Last weekend his homily addressed the topic of worry and anxiety, and he outlined Paul’s specific process to not only react to anxiety, but to attack it. If you know of anyone who worries excessively or has anxiety this will likely be a blessing to them.
Without coincidence, yesterday the world’s most studied gospel narrative was a portion the one passage Mary in Medjugorje has told us is the most important gospel passage for our time – Matthew 6:24-34. The passage begins by telling us we cannot serve God and money – we must choose who our master is by our actions such as choosing to work on the sabbath, recognizing if we spend more time in prayer re money or the kingdom, etc. Yesterday’s passage picked up at verse 31, the topic James Merritt highlighted this week:
MATTHEW 6:31-34 31Therefore do not be anxious, saying, `What shall we eat?' or `What shall we drink?' or `What shall we wear?' 32For the Gentiles seek all these things; and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well. 34"Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Let the day's own trouble be sufficient for the day.
So let us make this biblical guidance a goal for us as we move into the wonderful autumn season the Lord gives us.
In conclusion we have a question for you – Does anyone who fasts with us regularly twice weekly have anxiety?
If so please let us know – It is our expectation that the answer to that question, is no… another wonderful side-benefit of fasting in the manner that first century Christians did.
Thank you for fasting with us tomorrow – You are changing history, renewing America, and you will be glad you made the effort for all of eternity...
