It seems as though we are in a time reminiscent of the first Easter – When the Spirit simply could not be contained. Since Easter, two clients have brought to our attention the stories of miraculous and unexplainable phenomena happening right here in the United States. And like the first Easter, it is interesting to consider that the miracles are taking place away from the “high priests”, springing up where there is simply faith. We hope to share these details with you in the weeks ahead. First however as we return to fasting today, here is a reflection Dr. Greta wrote about a modern-day experience when a minister of the church died. It is the story of someone who had given up everything for the Lord but it wasn’t enough to merit Heaven, the story of the power of holy intercession, and the story of how life changes completely when we catch just one glimpse of heaven. We hope you enjoy it. Thank you for fasting with us today – You will be glad you made the small sacrifice for all of eternity …
Happy Easter! We hope that your Easter celebrations are continuing. Our post-Christian culture treats Easter as one hallmark day that is over and done with, but the secular world is missing so much. It is incumbent on us to regenerate culture in our own homes. Nobody is going to do it for us, so let us ask ourselves how we can spread the Easter joy. Have guests for a Sunday barbecue? Continue to buy Easter lilies? Look at great works of art on the resurrection? Here is one young woman’s pencil drawing of Mary Magdalene as she gazes into the empty tomb. Look how the artist has wrestled to display so many emotions all in this one expression!! Musicians, children or adult, could be encouraged to prepare Easter songs for a small house concert. There are myriad ways to celebrate the pivotal event of history!
Yes, Jesus’ perfect life, allowing Him to be the perfect lamb of God, along with His willingness to lay down His life for His sheep opened the gates of heaven for those who believe in His name. First though, they must repent and be baptized. Even those who had murderously clamored for His torture and death were later cut to the heart when they realized what they had done. When they asked what they could possibly do, Peter gave them the answer that is the answer for all of us: repent and be baptized. So Jesus opens for us the possibility of entering paradise for eternity, but what happens when we die with unrepentant sins on our soul? Do we just flash our “blood of Jesus” ID card and walk right in? Or do those sins need to be dealt with before we may enter heaven where “no impure thing may enter”?
The testimony of Fr Scheier is an incredible one that reminds us that God is aware of every good or bad deed or thought that we have ever done or had. Fr. Scheier nearly lost his life in a horrific car accident and had a near death experience in which he met the Just Judge. God knew his heart and knew that he had been a mediocre priest, a priest who cared only about his favor in the eyes of his brother priests and his parishioners. His prayer life was feeble and the Eucharist meant little to him. When he was told by God that his sentence was hell, he didn’t argue or make excuses to get out of it because, as he said, “When you are standing in front of Truth itself, everything is known. Nothing is hidden.” Fortunately for Fr Scheier, he heard the voice of a woman who he says was Mary, the Mother of God, asking for one more chance for him. Just like in Jesus’ parable of a fig tree, although he had born no fruit, God was going to give him another chance. After this encounter with Truth, Fr Scheier was a completely different kind of priest. He has now passed from this life, and we pray that this time, Our Lord was able to say, “Well done good and faithful servant.”
We encourage you to watch his story here, to be reminded that only what we do on this earth that lasts - is what is done for the kingdom of heaven. Jesus paid the ultimate price for us.
We praise you Jesus, and we thank you for conquering death for us so that we might have life forever with you!
