It Was The Lowest Point Of His Life. Depression Sunk In
"When you pray, pray first for the Holy Spirit because when you have the Holy Spirit, you have everything." - Medjugorje April 4, 1985 |
____________________________________________________________________________ Last week, a client who we have known well for 10 years to the point of traveling together internationally opened up to us about a page from his life story that we never heard before. We wanted to share his experience with you.
Years ago, John was a young father of five children, and despite the financial pressures of the day, he decided to take the leap and start his own business. Early on he struggled to say the least. He lived near Boston, while most of his prospects were in New York. That led to regular trips to the Big Apple, but he could not even afford the relatively inexpensive commuter flight expense so he drove himself both ways regularly, an 8-hour drive round trip.
On one trip home in the early 1970’s, he pulled into a gas station with his car on fumes but when he went to refill his tank, his credit card was rejected. So he put in his second credit. And it was rejected. And the same with his 3rd credit card - none of his credit cards would work and he realized he had reached the end of his rope. He was totally tapped out financially. Recall the era was well before cell phones so the beleaguered entrepreneur had to call his wife from the station payphone and admit to her that he had run out of money and would not be able to get home that evening.
Although it was almost midnight, his wife knocked on the door of their neighbor and told the couple of her husband’s predicament.
In a remarkable testimony of generosity John’s neighbors jumped in their car driving several hours in the middle of the night to rescue John and loan him some money so he could fill his tank and make it home.
The feeling of complete failure consumed John.
He felt so worthless and despondent that his lack of success had made him an imposition on his friends and family, he said it was the lowest point of his life.
But something beautiful was happening. Heaven had a plan.
Shortly thereafter the thought floated through John’s mind that he should begin to ask the Holy Spirit to guide him in his decisions.
That was it.
Just a seemingly little idea. Not earth shattering. Just a little thought in the parade of ideas that present themselves in one’s mind each day.
He clung to that thought however and John began doing so.
At first he began asking the Spirit’s guidance before making little decisions. Then big decisions. And as time went by John saw that the quality of his decisions improved dramatically. The words were so simple, his prayer so brief:
Come Holy Spirit, fill me with Your wisdom … or Guide me Holy Spirit …
Fast forward to today, and it seems to have been a wise practice to say the least.
John’s business has become so influential then on three occasions, he has been invited to play golf with a US president. Steve Jobs told him that he was a pioneer in business as he became the first person to install personal computers in a corporate setting. He has become remarkably successful in industries as diverse as energy, insurance, healthcare, and real estate.
We feel blessed to share his story and suggest his example is a good practice for all of us to follow …
“Come Holy Spirit, fill us with wisdom in all of our decisions, in all that we do!”

Why We Fast – Our Core Fasting Intentions 1) For the Holy Spirit to reign down upon America renewing our land as the Christian, capitalist meritocracy we were founded to be. 2) For the protection of our police, firefighters, military and their families from harm and that the Lord bless their courageous generosity on our behalf one hundredfold. 3) For the protection of the families who fast with us, and for God’s blessings of abundance upon them and that true to His word, we will be able to witness that He prospered us in famine. 4) For Mike Lindell who is putting himself on the front lines suing over the election fraud that has taken place and for all of the warriors who are stepping up around the nation to fight for the gospel – May The Father cover them in the blood of our savior, protect them and their families from evil and bring victory to their endeavors. |
