Do we need any more evidence that Jesus honors those who revere and honor His mother?

 As St Maximilian Kolbe said, “Never be afraid of loving the Virgin too much. You can never love her more than Jesus did.” And as a good Jew who followed the law with perfection, Jesus honored His mother and father perfectly. However, the deceitful one has successfully sewn discord between Protestants and Catholics by the false accusation that Catholics worship Mary, thus causing a huge swath of Christianity to turn their back on her with suspicion. So sad! Especially given the unique role she played in salvation history. Do we turn our backs on anyone else in salvation history? Peter? Paul? John? Joseph, Jesus’ foster father? No, just on the Blessed Virgin Mary.

That fact is so interesting considering that even scripture shows that Mary has so much sway with the Lord in obtaining miracles, akin to how the disciples were given the power to perform miracles, cast out demons, and forgive sins on behalf of Christ. 

During the month of the rosary, we have featured the power to avert evil when one prays the rosary and stays close to Mary since the devil loathes her. The rosary repelled Bundy, the demonic serial murderer, from the room of a sorority sister with an invisible force. Today’s story of witness is just as incredible. 

Hiroshima, 1945.

Jesuit missionaries lived together in the rectory of The Church of Our Lady’s Assumption in Hiroshima and prayed the rosary every day. At 8:15 in the morning, the first atomic bomb ever used in war was dropped on Hiroshima. One of the missionaries living in Hiroshima, Fr Schiffer wrote:

Suddenly, a terrific explosion filled the air with one bursting thunder stroke. An invisible force lifted me from the chair, hurled me through the air, shook me, battered me, whirled me ‘round and ‘round like a leaf in a gust of autumn wind.” 

Though nearly 80,000 residents of the city were killed instantly, miraculously, the Jesuits were largely protected.  Several of the priests suffered from the shards of glass, and one sustained a severe head injury, but none died. Furthermore, incredibly, none of the priests succumbed to the radiation sickness which took the lives of 130,000 more residents in the aftermath. Likewise, the church, though having lost its roof, was nearly the only building standing despite the fact that it was only one mile from ground zero of the blast. The photographs of the church standing among the rubble are astounding.

Heaven’s protection was also present three days later in Nagasaki. Nagasaki was the second Japanese town that was hit with an atomic bomb and was where Fr. Maximilian Kolbe had chosen to construct a monastery. Kolbe would eventually become the Polish saint who gave his life in exchange for the freedom of another prisoner scheduled to die at Auschwitz in 1941. In Nagasaki Kolbe’s monks resided in a monastery on the side of a hillside which had been constructed on the “wrong side of the hill.” Years earlier, Fr Kolbe had gone against the recommendations of engineers to construct the monastery on the favorable side of the hill. On that fateful day of August 9th, 1945, Fr Kolbe’s monks were spared because the monastery was on the opposite side of the mountain where the blast had hit. 

These “impossible” events give weight to the truth that Fr Schiffer, one of the Hiroshima Jesuits, experienced, and it is why he could testify with certainty that:

“Prayer is more powerful than the atomic bomb.”

5) For priests, ministers and all who aspire to lead others to the Lord, that the Holy Spirit will reign down upon them as at Pentecost filling them to overflowing with an understanding of what the Lord wants, courage and the desire to preach what He would have them preach and protection and strength from all evil that comes against them. 

6) For the Americans jailed after January 6th who were admitted to the Capitol building by the police, and who were not found to have destroyed any property at the capitol yet who have been held captive ever since on our own soil - That God's Spirit will move quickly to bring justice back to this land by freeing them while enlightening Americans how to bring God's justice back to our nation.

7) For young Megan who has an incurable liver condition @ Duke Hospital - Asking the Divine Physician for a complete healing.
