Safety For Travelers & For All Those In Danger
"In prayer you shall perceive ... the way out of every situation that has no exit." |
____________________________________________________________________________ Let us recall a story in the Old Testament book of Ezra in which fasting plays a pivotal role. Ezra was a scribe and a Jewish exile who had been living in Babylon. Through a miracle in which God had predisposed the heart of the king to release the Jews, Ezra headed up the caravan of exiles who were finally going back to the land God gave them, and they would at long last see the famed Temple of Jerusalem. Our scribe had refused the king’s offer of an escort for the journey which would lead the people through enemy lands to their homeland saying, “ The favoring hand of our God is upon all who fear him, but His mighty wrath is against all who forsake him.”
However, as the great crowd gathered on the bank of the river Ahava, the border of Babylonian lands and unsafe territory, Ezra regretted not having accepted the troops. In other words, his faith faltered. So the scribe decided to petition God in the most powerful way he could. In Ezra 8:21, we are told that Ezra echoed the key understanding of King David explaining what it meant to humble oneself before God:
“Then I proclaimed a fast, there by the river Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God to petition from him a safe journey for ourselves, our children, and our possessions.”
The returning exiles would have been especially vulnerable had any enemies known of the King’s gift: tremendous quantities of gold, silver, and bronze vessels they were carrying for the Temple.
Very simply, the scriptures say, “So we fasted and and prayed to our God for this, and our petition was granted.”
Knowing that God knows our every concern and hears our prayers when we make our needs known, we also could benefit from entrusting our journeys with prayer and fasting, especially as so many of us travel during the summer season. Abstinence from food also is healthy for us since travel is usually sedentary for us in modern times. We often eat for entertainment, something to do, or to escape boredom as we wait in airports or take car trips. What a more spiritually powerful use of our time when we abstain from food while praying for others. Self denial is the antidote to the evil one’s pride!
Although we fast regularly on Wednesdays and Fridays, feel free to move your day around to fit a travel day. God bless you for all of your sacrifices! Click Here & Join Us - Receive Our Free Fasting Reminders __________________________________________________________________________ |
Why We Fast – Our Core Fasting Intentions 1) We add the new fasting intention of taking back the church from evil. We submit the three-step process to achieve this victory is 1-Repent, 2-Prayer & Fasting and, 3-Imitate our Savior by throwing the evil leadership from the church. We will seek to emulate the Savior in our effort to End The USCCB, an organization that has been devastating to the church. (“You shall know the spirit by the fruits” - Matt. 7:16) 2) For the Holy Spirit to reign down upon America, renewing our land as the Christian, capitalist meritocracy we were founded to be. 3) For the protection of our police, firefighters, military and their families from harm and that the Lord bless their courageous generosity on our behalf. 4) For the protection of the families who fast with us, and for God’s blessings of abundance upon them and that true to His word, we will be able to witness that He prospered us in famine. 4) For all patriots who put themselves on the front lines in combatting evil and for all of the warriors who are stepping up around the nation to fight for the gospel – May The Father cover them in the blood of our savior, protect them and their families from evil and bring victory to their endeavors.
