The Only Painting Heaven Ever Commissioned
"When you pray, pray first for the Holy Spirit because when you have the Holy Spirit, you have everything." - Medjugorje April 4, 1985 |
____________________________________________________________________________ Last Saturday, the most studied New Testament passage in the world was from Hebrews 11. Consider what was on the Spirit’s mind…
2 For by it [faith] the men of old received divine approval…8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place which he was to receive as an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was to go…
Abraham set out, not knowing where he was to go. But Abraham believed that when a decision point would arise, God would provide Abraham with his next word. Abraham’s belief and trust were met with blessings.
Consider also the following “artwork”. We reference it as art but the reality is that science doesn’t know what it is. It is not a painting, it is not a photograph, there are no brushstrokes and somehow, the image doesn’t touch the medium it appears to be part of – the image hovers over the burlap cloak that in itself is a scientific mystery as the burlap should have disintegrated 450 years ago. As most will recognize, this is the image of Guadalupe that inexplicably appeared on the inside of a peasant’s cloak when he delivered Catalonian roses in it, a type of rose that at the time did not even exist in Mexico. When this heavenly commission appeared, satanic worship in Mexico under the guise of Aztec human sacrificing, quickly ended. The Aztec terror machine seemed invincible to the peasants but coincident with the appearance of this image Christianity burst forth on the continent and within a few years millions had been baptized. Notice the woman in the image – her hands are folded in prayer as she prays to God, she is not God. Notice she is clothed in the sun and stands upon the moon, as depicted by the woman of revelation. And while it may not be obvious from this photo, artists who have poured over this image conclude the shadowing on her left leg portrays that her left knee is bent as if she is taking a step forward – by her example she is encouraging us to pray and encouraging us to take a step forward in faith as Abraham did, not knowing the details as to where the Lord’s path will lead us, but believing and trusting where He will lead us…
And while today’s journey may seem frightening when we are distracted by evil’s seemingly perfect grip on government, health care, the judicial system, border treason, media, etc., it is not that different from numerous other rescues heaven orchestrated in scripture. Today’s surroundings also make it easy to relate to what the apostles experienced on their journey. On Saturday, the most widely studied gospel passage worldwide was from Mark 4:
35On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, "Let us go across to the other side." 36And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him. 37And a great storm of wind arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. 38But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke him and said to him, "Teacher, do you not care if we perish?" 39And he awoke and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Peace! Be still!" And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40He said to them, "Why are you afraid? Have you no faith?" 41And they were filled with awe, and said to one another, "Who then is this, that even wind and sea obey him?"
Can’t you imagine the intense look on the apostles’ faces who after obvious deliberation as to whether to wake Jesus, did so in controlled panic and spoke such rehearsed and sarcastic words:
“Do you not care if we perish?”
And then to us as to His apostles, Jesus responds to their question with questions. His inquiry echoes down through the millennia to us today:
Why are you afraid?
Have you no faith?
… Why are we afraid?
… Is there something the Spirit has been putting on your heart and you have been procrastinating about … seeking external confirmation around … discerning with the opinions of others … or perhaps seeking the guidance of a spiritual director?
Show us where in scripture the Lord tells us behave so?
Indeed, those corporate types of actions stifle one’s spiritual growth. Faith is the muscle of heaven, and you must engage it to progress.
In contrast, why do we make important decisions without asking the Creator of the Universe for guidance? He loves you so much he allowed His Son to die just for you. What a lost opportunity to miss His guidance from the tiniest of decisions to the biggest details in our lives.
So if perhaps you have a decision that is important for you, decide that tomorrow while fasting, you will arise early, and seek His guidance. Then, when you have a sense of peace, a joy rather than a dread about the future, those characteristics suggest He is whispering in your thoughts – and step forward in trust. You won’t know for sure you have chosen the right path but remember His words which should be a comfort and why we want to find His wonderful and exciting path:
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” - Jeremiah29:11
What wonderful words. You may want to print those out and hang them up to remind yourself of them each day. When we step out of the boat in faith we are making a declaration before Heaven, that we are seeking to follow His plans that He speaks of in Jeremiah.
Thank you for fasting with us tomorrow.
New readers, know that in the Didache, first century Christians explicitly said what Jesus implied: Christians and Jews are both obligated to fast twice each week. Know as well, that Jesus was clear that the benefits of fasting and one’s power over evil while fasting are so extraordinary, that the tiny sacrifice of only eating bread, olive oil and water … pales in comparison. Your fast tomorrow will sway history and you will be glad you made the effort for all of eternity. Why We Fast – Our Core Fasting Intentions 1) For the Holy Spirit to reign down upon America renewing our land as the Christian, capitalist meritocracy we were founded to be. 2) For the protection of our police, firefighters, military and their families from harm and that the Lord bless their courageous generosity on our behalf one hundredfold. 3) For the protection of the families who fast with us, and for God’s blessings of abundance upon them and that true to His word, we will be able to witness that He prospered us in famine. 4) For Mike Lindell who is putting himself on the front lines suing over the election fraud that has taken place and for all of the warriors who are stepping up around the nation to fight for the gospel – May The Father cover them in the blood of our savior, protect them and their families from evil and bring victory to their endeavors. |
