Recently one of the world’s most studied passages in this Easter season was from Acts, Chapter 13 when Paul was recounting the history of our faith. In verse 22, Paul quoted the Lord saying:
Acts 13:22
`I have found in David the son of Jesse a man after my heart, who will do all my will.'
As you likely know, David, who himself committed scorching sins that seem more apropos for a Hollywood movie than a leader of the faith, is the only person the Bible says has a heart like God Himself.
Here Paul's words conclude with what we must consider at least a big part of the reason David was so special to the Lord - because David "will do all My will".
… But Lord, David was an infamous sinner who makes my sordid moments pale in comparison! Why would you say he does all Your will?
... Perhaps the answer from the Lord's perspective is that if He were going to make it a requirement that His leaders were not massive sinners, He wouldn't have any leaders?
… Perhaps the Lord also savors having His mercy on display - that no matter how great our sins that we wish we could erase from history … Our Creator knows what He is dealing with - imperfect humanity.
...Perhaps the Lord equates expecting too much of us would be like expecting too much from our beloved pets? They're never going to have a stimulating conversation with us about the intricacies of calculus - but we don’t care. We just accept them for what they are, and we love to have them around us. They bring us joy.
When these animals' poop in the house or chew on the furniture - it irritates us. You broke a commandment of the house!
And what do we hope for from them?
Please don’t do it again.
Then when these animals amend their behavior, we forget their past offenses and when they obey our rules, good things flow, perhaps joy being at the top of the list.
The Lord obviously knew David was a big sinner - but David repented, and indeed in his parting words from 1 Kings 2:3, he said:
Do what the Lord your God tells you. Walk in His ways. Keep all His laws and His Word, by what is written in the Law of Moses. Then you will do well in all that you do and in every place you go.
The great protestant evangelist Derrick Prince pointed out that David was clear - To humble oneself before the Lord, meant to fast. Fasting was the necessary condition to reconcile with the Lord and begin restoring oneself and one's nation.
So, for those who love America, how can we thank you enough for stepping up and making the sacrifice to fast each week with us for the restoration of our great nation?
Yesterday one of our generation's greatest money managers sent me an email (a link to the video would be great) showing the southern border. His own admission was that our government is trying to destroy our nation. The video was so clear - there is simply no other argument.
We can layer on that concern the betrayal of our leaders around the corona scam, the betrayal of our national debt, taxing and regulating workers while rewarding and loosing criminals - every policy our leaders are pursuing as they enrich themselves and impoverish our nation is designed by our enemies to destroy us.
But that reality is just the storm waves in the ocean - they look menacing, but Jesus showed us, when we focus on the Lord, we can overcome any storm. When we focus on the storm, we will sink.
If you ever feel discouraged looking at the storms of our headlines recall once again what a disaster Good Friday appeared to be when in fact it was humanity's greatest victory.
God has His perfect plan - Let's decide we will praise Him and sing to Him tomorrow for His plan and His protection of us.
Your fasting shows you are not looking for a legal excuse stamped with the approval of a theologian to get out of doing what the Lord asks of us - Regular fasting. Your heart is inclined to do what He asks of us like David rather than justifying not fasting like most of Christendom.
Your effort is impacting history more than you imagine.
Don’t believe satan's lies that your efforts don’t matter.
You will be in disbelief when the Lord reveals to you how much your effort to fast on bread and water each week impacted so many as you bludgeoned evil. Thank you for fasting with us tomorrow. You will be glad you did for all of eternity.
