Introduced in 1986, the American Gold Eagle Series quickly became the most widely recognized and traded coin series worldwide. Obverse:
 A full-length depiction of Lady Liberty designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. In this image, Liberty strides forward, holding a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. Surrounding her is a ring of stars, with the U.S. Capitol Building and radiant sun rays in the background, symbolizing hope, freedom, and the strength of the nation.

Reverse:

Original Design: (used until mid-2021): Shows a family of bald eagles around a nest, symbolizing strength, and unity
New Design: (introduced mid-2021): Depicts a close-up portrait of a bald eagle, representing resilience and national pride.
