 The American Gold Eagle is the official gold bullion coin of the United States, first minted in 1986.

The 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle is a popular investment coin due to its fractional weight, making it more affordable compared to the full 1 oz coin. It contains 1/4 oz of pure gold but has a total weight that is slightly higher, as it is alloyed with other metals for durability. The coin features iconic American designs and is backed by the U.S. government for its weight and purity. 

Obverse:  A full-length depiction of Lady Liberty designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. In this image, Liberty strides forward, holding a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. Surrounding her is a ring of            stars, with the U.S. Capitol Building and radiant sun rays in the background, symbolizing hope, freedom, and the strength of the nation.

Reverse:  Original Design: (used until mid-2021): Shows a family of bald eagles around a nest, symbolizing strength, and unity.
                 New Design: (introduced mid-2021): Depicts a close-up portrait of a bald eagle, representing resilience and national pride.
