Our Lady of Texas
"I wish to keep on giving you messages, as it has never been in history, from the beginning of the world" - Medjugorje April 4, 1985 |
____________________________________________________________________________ Believers in Jesus Christ,
On this Feast day of the Immaculate Conception, the first Friday in Advent, we offer you the incredible story of the apparition of the Mother of the Redeemer who made herself known in Texas in 1996. The exact location is something we are seeking to recover, and so we send this missive out, asking the Holy Spirit to connect us with someone with direct knowledge.
The intersection of the man who received the mystical vision, with the Catholic author who explained it to him, is quite incredible. The story is told by author Janice Connell who was on a book tour promoting her book Meetings with Mary. Janice was surprised at the audience which showed up for her book signing that night at the Hulen Mall Borders Book store in Fort Worth, Texas. Instead of a few elderly Catholic women as had been her audience at dozens of prior book signings, this group was comprised of dozens of young, blue-collar men who worked at a local sawmill in or near Fort Worth.
As Janice began to speak about the importance of Mary in the story of redemption, she sensed some hostility among the crowd, so she inquired as to why the men had come. One of the men explained earlier that day, he had seen a vision of a beautiful woman while working at the sawmill. Concerned that she was an evil demon clothed in light as scripture says can occur, the man commanded that if she was not a spirit of God to “be gone in the name of Jesus.” The woman smiled and said that she was pleased that he knew how to arm himself against evil spirits, and furthermore, she was there only to make her Son Jesus better known and loved.
The author asked the man how he had come to find the book signing that particular night and he replied that the woman had told him where and when to go. Since he was a respected worker at the mill, he brought his co-workers who acknowledged that something extraordinary had taken place that day.
The conversation continued as Mrs. Connell explained to the Protestant men how Mary had appeared in Mexico in the 1500’s as Our Lady of Guadalupe, resulting in millions of conversions; how she had appeared in Fatima in 1917 with grave warnings calling humanity to repent, and how she appeared to children in the former Yugoslavia with messages which continue to this day. At one point, one of the men challenged Janice’s use of the term the Immaculate Conception. “What gives you the right to say the Mary was free from all sin?” he said. “ Where in scripture does it say that?”
Janice reported that even though she was not good at quoting chapter and verse in scripture as many Protestants are, the Spirit told her to say, “Let’s look at Luke 1:27.” The devout man, who carried his Bible with him, opened the Word and read, “Hail Mary, full of grace.” His voice caught, and he reread the passage several times slowly. “Full of grace…full of grace…full of grace.” The Lord opened his heart and the hearts of the other men to understand that the Greek word was unmistakable - her grace always had been complete and always would be complete, lacking nothing. He saw that she was the woman from Genesis 3:15 who would tread on the head of the serpent. She was selected by God with purpose and intention and should not be regarded with suspicion despite the doubt the serpent has sown now for hundreds of years.
The conversation continued back and forth as the audience and Janet shared many beautiful things of the Spirit. They stayed until closing time and then went their separate ways. Janet didn’t think to get their names. This was in 1996 before most carried cell phones.
Recently, a small group of students called all of the sawmills in the area they could find, astounding some and annoying others in their quest to find this man, his friends, or someone who can give testimony, Another group prayed this past week at the site of the former Borders Book store.
As Mary’s messages have always turned people towards her Son, we feel that elevating this story could be pivotal in the faith of many. Please forward this story to anyone who you think might have any knowledge of the apparition of Mary at the sawmill in Fort Worth. We offer a $1,000 reward to anyone who can connect us with the sawmill workers who claimed to see Our Lady of Texas that night.
